Borderless Hockey News December 2015

Hello HIPA members,
With the final tour of HIPA’s 2015 calendar year behind us, we are going to look back at the year that was and take a peek into 2016!  We are excited to reveal our 2016 Tour Calendar!
As always, we will feature a #whatdoyoudoforhockey article, demonstrating the lengths some people go for their love of hockey.
“Hockey At Its Best” can be found on Facebook at #hockeyatitsbest.  This is where we invite our members to share anything that demonstrates the positive nature of hockey itself, hockey players, supporters, officials… the hockey spirit!
If you prefer, send your contributions to us directly, just reply to this email and let us have it! We love to hear about the role hockey plays in your life.  Help us celebrate the game, the culture and shed light on “Hockey At Its Best”!
I would personally like to thank all club members for your support, and invite you to join us on tour, on ice and on-line in 2016.

Yours in hockey,
Paul de Verteuil
HIPA President

The Year in Review:

HIPA started 2015 with an early February trip to Lafayette Louisiana U.S.A. for Mardi-Gras Mayhem.  Ten tour members earned their first cap on this tour.  With players traveling from Ontario Canada, Gulfport Mississippi and Houston Texas to join local team members in Lafayette, HIPA was certainly the most geographically diverse team in the tournament.  Our local hosts demonstrated the Southern hospitality Louisiana is renowned for.  Mardi-Gras parades, crawfish boil and drive through daiquiris are just a few of the tour highlights.  On ice, HIPA claimed our first championship ever.
In April, another HIPA team descended on Collingwood Ontario Canada for our first ever Fours Hockey experience. Though best known for its ski industry, Collingwood proved to be an amazing host town for a HIPA tour in mid-Spring. There is no debate that on this tour, despite the off ice fun, it was the hockey that was the highlight. Six of nine tour members earned their first HIPA cap. Opening the tournament with a double-digit loss, things didn’t look good for HIPA.  The team improved game over game and earned their way into the championship game.  Our Fours Hockey experience was amazing.  It is a great “twist” on the game and fun to watch or play.  The Championship game was tied up with just seconds remaining in the third period, after which the goalies shut the door for three more periods. Finally, in the fourth OT period, with spectators filling the arena and cheering the end-to-end action, HIPA scored to secure the championship!  Our second in 2015, second in a row and second all time.  It was an exciting tournament and HIPA is already registered to defend in 2016.
In May, Five new tour members joined some HIPA tour veterans to form the 2015 tour team in Montreal Quebec Canada, marking the return to our inaugural tour destination.   They say, “you can’t win them all” and they are right.  Our winning streak came to an end on this tour, but the fun never did.  Following a particularly hilarious court session, tour members found their way to a St. Catherine Street pub in perfect time to catch the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight, followed by some great live music.
HIPA’s final tour of the year was another classic weekend in Las Vegas Nevada U.S.A. Our annual trip to Sin City never fails to be entertaining.  This was the first tour for four new HIPA members hailing from various parts of North America.  It’s pretty cool when players from British Columbia Canada meet up with players from Arkansas U.S.A. and pull on the same jersey.  What isn’t a highlight when in Las Vegas?  The Strip, Fremont Street Experience, Pizza Rock, Tony Roma’s and the list goes on.
HIPA’s popularity and relevance as the world’s first borderless hockey club continues to grow.  As of the end of 2015, we have capped 69 different club members who collectively account for 115 caps over 10 tours in three years.  During this calendar year, HIPA’s surpassed two notable Facebook follower milestones; 10K and 12.5K.

In 2015, we’ve a connected with our global membership base like never before, both on the ice and on-line.  We launched two major social media campaigns known as #whatdoyoudoforhockey and #hockeyatitsbest.  Both provide club members the opportunity to share their hockey experiences with one another.  We look forward to sharing more of your great pictures, stories and hockey adventures next year.

HIPA produced eleven monthly newsletters in 2015.  We receive all kinds of great feedback on the monthly articles throughout the year.  Even more importantly, we appreciate all your contributions!  So keep them coming, via email or post to our Facebook page.

We love the opportunity HIPA provides to connect with the global hockey community, with you, our club members.   Have a wonderful and safe holiday season and don’t be shy in 2016.  Join us on a tour – you’ll be glad you did!
