Borderless Hockey News June 2016

Hello HIPA members,

In the aftermath of the Stanley Cup playoffs, I find myself exhausted, but ready for more; and as you must know by now, there is so much more going on in the world of hockey than just the NHL!

HIPA is always preparing for tours, and we invite you to join us.  If you haven’t been on tour with us yet, what are you waiting for?  Pick one, sign up and get ready for a life-altering experience.  And if that doesn’t happen, you still had a great time playing hockey and meeting new friends in a cool location!

Check out this month’s feature article on one of our very own members.  Ryan Bahl is preparing to enter the Guinness Book of World Records…

Our Facebook Hashtag campaign #hockeyatitsbest reflects on the passing of Mr. Hockey, #9, Gordie Howe; truly an icon in the sport and a gentleman off the ice.

If you haven’t done so, be sure to “LIKE” us at www.facebook.com/Hockey.IPA
to get plugged in and to stay informed on a daily/weekly basis.

As always, I invite you to reach out to me. Hit reply to this email and send me your thoughts.

Until next month, keep your skates sharp and your stick on the ice,

Paul de Verteuil
HIPA President

Lafayette Louisiana 4s Hockey Tour October 2016

Those of you who have experienced FOURS Hockey already know how much fun it is.  For those who aren’t familiar with the game, visit www.fourshockey.com, or better yet, join HIPA on tour October 7-9 in Lafayette, Louisiana!  Rachael Graham Sudul is a HIPA member who runs the most amazingly fun hockey tournaments South of the Mason-Dixon Line!

This tour will be a unique HIPA tour experience because, for the first time ever, tour members will be registered in the tournament as individuals and drafted onto teams on the Friday night before the tournament.  HIPA tour members will play with and against one another but will be on tour together!

Lafayette is one of America’s funnest cities. Every tour is different, so who can say what shenanigans will happen on this tour? If ‘driving through daiquiris’ isn’t your thing, maybe we can find the mobile Margarita Bar!

HIPA’s Featured Member:

By this time next year, HIPA club member Ryan Bahl is expecting to be recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.

From California U.S.A., Ryan has been playing hockey since age 5. Since graduating from college, he has traveled the world with his skates and stick, playing hockey almost everywhere. He loves hockey, and he loves travel. Ryan is truly a hockey nomad. He has lived “Borderless Hockey”.  Having played in the U.S.A., Hong Kong, Australia, Czech Republic, Sweden, South Africa, Spain, Chile and Turkey, Ryan finds just one elusive continent remains outstanding.

The good folks at Guinness World Records have indicated that once he can substantially claim all seven continents, Ryan will be recognized as the first person to do so!

What does an ambitious and motivated hockey player do when facing a challenge?  He jumps the boards and faces his adversary on the ice.  Introducing Antarctic Hockey!  Ryan recently launched www.antarctichockey.com to promote a May 2017 tour to the world’s Southern most continent.  Ryan himself admits there are still many details to finalize, but preparations are well underway.  HIPA is supporting our club member as he chases his dream and hope to be right there with him in Antarctica, as he earns entry to the Guinness Book of World Records.

All kinds of details are available through his website. Including:
Go Fund Me Page: www.antarctichockey.com/donate.html
Sponsors links: www.antarctichockey.com/get-involved.html
Press/Media Articles: www.antarctichockey.com/news.html

You can even purchase a tour jersey and customize it with your chosen name and number to help support the event.
While details are still being worked out, HIPA has posted a May 2017 Antarctica Tour.  HIPA members who want to stay informed can express their interest by clicking “Join This Tour” at www.hockey-ipa.com/tours/view_event/69

As details become available, we will communicate to those who have expressed their interest. We are not guaranteeing any spots on this tour, nor does expressing interest infer any commitment on your part.  It is simply a way for us to know who wants more information as Antarctic Hockey comes into focus.  Of course, you can also get plugged in directly at the sites listed above.

Do not hesitate to reach out directly to Ryan; he is your HIPA club-mate, after all! Send him your best wishes, offer support or just connect with a fellow hockey nut!

Hockey At Its Best

The passing of Gordie Howe touched the hockey world recently.  Despite Mr. Hockey’s amazing career, which rewrote the record books, his off-ice persona eclipsed those statistics.  And that’s no insignificant statement.!  RIP #9.

Tribute courtesy of the greatest Simpson’s episode ever!
