Borderless Hockey News November 2016

Hello HIPA members,

In contrast to having written last month’s introduction en route to Las Vegas for HIPA’s fourth consecutive annual tour to Sin City, I welcome you this month from the comforts of home. In all honesty, it feels like I am just now recovered from that tour.  I cannot succumb to blaming my extended recovery on age, so I must conclude HIPA Las Vegas tours are just so awesome that it takes a full month to recover!

Are you tracking “Jacksons Endeavour” world tour? We’ve got an update for you on their progress, as well as an introduction to Beer League Talk, the place to go for all your beer league banter!

2017 starts with a blast! Two awesome tours before February even ends, so check us out, take your first stride and join us on tour!

Don’t forget to “LIKE” us at www.facebook.com/Hockey.IPA to stay informed on a daily/weekly basis.

Until next month, remember to always tape your stick from heel to toe!

Jacksons Endeavour:

In August 2016, Mike (President of Sport Clubs International – HIPA’s parent corporation), his wife, Cathy, and their children, Lilly and Greg, started the wheels rolling on what projects to be a two-year, around-the-world tour in a Volkswagen van!

The past month has been a busy ride for the Jacksons.  After visiting California, the world tour moved South into Mexico, where RIPA (HIPA’s rugby counterpart club) member and RIPA’s Central America Regional Manager Vladi Quiroz (https://www.facebook.com/vladi.quiroz) hosted the Jackson family in Los Mochis.  A variety of Mexican adventures followed, including a Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration in Guadalajara, before crossing yet another border and into Guatemala.  There, another longtime RIPA member Pedro Rodas has been hosting the Jackson family.
You can track “Jacksons Endeavour” on Facebook at

We’ll be sure to provide updates on “Jacksons Endeavour “ in future editions of HIPA’s Borderless Hockey News; however, we encourage you to “LIKE” the Facebook page to ensure you don’t miss them as their van rolls through your part of the world!

Beer League Talk

Have you heard of these guys yet?  We’ve been following them for a few months and thought you might want to tune in yourself. Nick Fleehart contributed the following introduction for this newsletter:
Beer League Talk is adult hockey’s best (and only) podcast! From the locker room to the bar, Beer League Talk covers all the topics you and your teammates ponder at your weekly late-night hockey games.

- Wanna talk about ringers? We’ve done it!
- Wanna talk about boneheaded refs? Tune in pretty much any episode!
- Wanna gripe about the yahoo on your team who pre-game poops in your locker room? We will ridicule him with you live on the show!

What we’re trying to say is this: if you’re an adult hockey player, Beer League Talk was made just for you. Our goal is to spread the love of this sport and enhance the adult hockey family. A lot of times, it seems people only care about NHL superstars or minor hockey tykes … not us! We’re all about the beer-drinking, puck-hogging, non-backchecking, adult hockey-playing beauty. Come enhance your hockey experience by checking out our latest episode: Beer League Talk 79 – The Hockey Refugee Episode

Why should you join us?
Well, other than we are awesome and the self-proclaimed (and so far never-corrected) greatest hockey show in the world, we are just like you! We love hockey, beer, and hanging out with our hockey buddies. The only difference is we record our conversations, and more than 5,000 adult hockey players tune in every week.

We also do really cool things like #TheWesty! On November 17, we concluded our search for the Best Beer League Team in the World. More than 200 teams entered to win bragging rights — oh, and the over $8,000 in free gear we gave to the winning team!

Another cool thing we’re kicking off is our Help a Hockey Player Campaign. We would love for you to join our hockey family and get in on the #HAHP action. We will be giving back to the adult hockey community this holiday season by helping to outfit as many players as we can from our listeners’ donations. You can find more info here: Help A Hockey Player

We know you’re probably a hockey player and you likely enjoy a cold beverage before and after your games. If any of those statements ring true, you belong in the Beer League Talk Family! We hope to see you soon!
